3 Common Car Insurance Scams You Should Avoid

We all need car insurance, and we know it. There are many companies who provide great insurance for reasonable prices. However, there are also some companies and individuals using car insurance as a great way to scam innocent an unsuspecting individuals. Below, we'll talk about 3 common car insurance scams you should avoid.

  1. Cheap Rates – One of the most common scams happens when someone is shopping around for car insurance. They find a company offering insurance for cheap rates and jump on it. A few months down the road, they find out that there was a 'company error' or that the cheap rate was an 'introductory rate,' and that their actual premiums are hundreds of dollars higher than they originally thought. This is perhaps one of the most common scams.

  2. Fake Insurance Companies – Another scam happens when individuals find an advertised agent and are offered insurance for a great price. They receive a very legitimate-looking insurance card and may even visit the company's building, only to find out when they're in a wreck that the insurance company doesn't exist and they've been paying a fake. This is a particularly upsetting situation and individuals can prevent this by researching all car insurance companies they're considering hiring.

  3. Car Insurance Company Recommends Repairer – A car insurance company has a repairman that is always recommended when the policyholder gets into a wreck, etc. The car insurance company may not only recommend them – they may claim that this repairer is the only one the policyholder is allowed to visit under the policy. Of course, the worth of the car and the repair prices are inflated and sometimes a car that should be considered totaled is 'repaired' so that the insurance company and the repairman can both benefit.

These scams are disgusting, but they do happen. Stay on the lookout and research any company that you're considering going with.
